Schedule: June 22-August 14 Training Hours May-June TBA
        Monday & Wednesday 10:30AM-6:00PM
        Friday 10:00AM-4:00PM

Position Summary

The Part-Time Summer Camp Sports Specialist is responsible for planning and leading structured, age-appropriate sports and physical activity programs for campers. Under the supervision of the Camp Coordinator, this position promotes teamwork, sportsmanship, skill development, and fun while maintaining a safe and inclusive environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Program Planning & Instruction

Plan and lead daily sports activities including soccer, basketball, kickball, flag football, relay races, and other recreational games. Assist with special events.
Develop age- appropriate drills and skill-building exercises for various grade levels.
Modify activities to ensure participation and inclusion for all campers.
Organize friendly competitions, tournaments, and themed sports days.
Create and implement camp sports curriculum.

Camper Engagement & Supervision

Actively participate in activities and model positive sportsmanship.
Encourage teamwork, cooperation, and respect among campers.
Maintain group control and ensure smooth transitions between activities.
Address behavioral concerns appropriately and in accordance with camp policies.

Health & Safety

Maintain a safe playing environment and inspect equipment before use.
Ensure campers follow safety rules and proper hydration practices.
Monitor weather conditions and modify programming as needed.
Respond promptly to injuries or incidents and report/document as required.

Collaboration & Communication

Work collaboratively with Camp Coordinators and Counselors to support overall camp operations.
Communicate equipment needs and supply inventory to camp leadership.
Ensure equipment is maintained and put away properly at the end of day.
Attend required staff trainings and meetings.
Required to cover lunch breaks daily.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

Experience working with children in a camp, school, coaching, or recreation setting preferred.
Background in athletics, physical education, recreation, or related field preferred.

Certifications

CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (or willingness to obtain prior to camp start).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of a variety of youth sports and recreational games.
Ability to teach skills in a clear, positive, and encouraging manner.
Strong leadership and group management skills.
Ability to promote inclusivity and adapt activities for varying skill levels.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Schedule & Work Environment

Part-time, seasonal summer position.
Primarily outdoor work in warm weather conditions.
Moderate to high activity level; frequent standing, running, and participation in sports.
Ability to lift and carry sports equipment up to 25 pounds.

Employment Requirements

Successful completion of a criminal background check.
Availability for required staff training and the full summer camp session.
