Monday and Friday 8:00AM-6:00PM
Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday 8:30AM-3:15PM
Position Summary
Under the direction of the Parks and Recreation Youth Program Manager, the Summer Camp Coordinator oversees the planning, organization, and daily operations of the Town of Bethany Parks & Recreation Summer Camp Program. This position supervises camp staff, ensures a safe and inclusive environment, and provides high-quality recreational and enrichment experiences for campers.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Program Planning & Implementation
• Implement a structured, engaging, and age-appropriate summer camp schedule.
• Coordinate daily activities including arts & crafts, sports, games, STEM, nature activities, and special events.
• Responsible for the daily set up and breakdown of camp.
• Plan and oversee field trips to Veterans Park, guest presenters, and themed camp days.
• Ensure all programming aligns with the mission and standards of the Town of Bethany Parks & Recreation Department.
Staff Supervision & Leadership
• Assist with training, scheduling, and supervising Camp Counselors and program staff.
• Direct supervision of Camp Counselors, Junior Counselors, and seasonal camp staff.
• Provide ongoing mentorship, performance feedback, and evaluations.
• Lead pre-camp training and weekly staff meetings.
• Model professionalism, teamwork, and positive leadership.
• Direct supervisor of the before and after care program.
Camper Safety & Wellbeing
• Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive camp environment.
• Enforce health, safety, and behavior policies.
• Review camper medical forms and communicate necessary information to staff while maintaining confidentiality.
• Respond promptly and appropriately to incidents, accidents, or behavioral concerns, including proper documentation.
• Ensure compliance with all local and state safety regulations.
Communication & Community Relations
• Serve as primary point of contact for parents/guardians.
• Communicate regularly regarding schedules, concerns, and program updates.
• Address parent and camper concerns in a professional and timely manner.
• Coordinate with Parks & Recreation administrative staff regarding registrations, rosters, and reporting.
Administrative & Operational Responsibilities
• Maintain attendance records and incident reports.
• Manage camp supplies and keep an updated inventory list.
• Organize materials and equipment as needed.
• Prepare end-of-season program reports and recommendations.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
• Experience working with children in a camp, school, or recreation setting required.
• Supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Education, Child Development, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
• Current CPR, First Aid, Epi Pen Admin, and AED certification (or ability to obtain prior to camp start date).

Physical Demands & Work Environment
• Work performed primarily outdoors during summer weather conditions.
• Frequent standing, walking, and active participation in games and activities.
• Ability to lift and carry supplies up to 25–30 pounds.
• Moderate noise levels are typical of youth recreation programs.
Employment Requirements
• Successful completion of a criminal background check.
• Valid driver’s license (if field trips or local travel are required).
• Availability for the full summer camp season, including pre-camp training.
