Classification: Non-Exempt 
Job Description (Summer Seasonal) June 22- August 28 Mon-Fri 8:30 am-3:30 pm 

Summer Camp Counselors are directly responsible for the daily activities, as well as the care, safety and happiness of the children assigned to them for the summer camp program.
Able to maturely and competently supervise children and be a positive role model.
Plan and implement camp activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with Parks and Recreation core values. Camp activities will need to be approved by the Youth Program Manager.
Manage child behavior, child needs, and daily schedule with flexibility as needed.
Follow a weekly group schedule and manage all sign in/sign out for assigned groups.
Adhere to program standards including safety, cleanliness, timeliness, and proper dress.
Follow Parks and Recreation policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
Be able to exercise proper judgment when dealing with a group of children.
Be able to exercise proper judgment when dealing with other staff or camp parents.
Assist in cleaning up at the end of the day, lunch and the last day of camp.
Attend all staff training and meetings.

Qualifications

Must be creative, enthusiastic and desire to work with and help children develop socially and emotionally.
Must have comprehensive knowledge of games and activities.
Must be organized and flexible.
Must demonstrate a good rapport with other counselors, supervisors, parents and children.
Must be 16 years or older (15 with JR/CIT experience).
No conflicts to employment preferred during camp season.

Physical Requirements

Ability to interact with children during activities including stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, listen and talk.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  

Work Environment

The work is conducted in a typical summer camp/playground environment
