Curbside residential waste pickup is provided by Residential Waste Systems (RWS). All trash must be placed in the supplied trash can. Additional cans are available for a fee, contact RWS for details. To find your trash pickup day, view the schedule below.

When is my trash pick up day?

Trash collection occurs Monday-Thursday and varies by road. Place the trash can at the curb the night before your scheduled pickup. You can find your route on the Curbside Pick-up Schedule.

Who provides curbside trash service in Bethany?

Curbside residential waste pickup is provided by Residential Waste Systems (RWS), the Town’s contracted hauler.

What should I do if my trash is missed?

For any issues with trash service or missed pickups, contact RWS directly at 203‑334‑1660.

Do I have to use the supplied trash can?

Yes, starting July 1, 2024, all trash must be placed in the RWS‑supplied container. RWS will not pick up trash that is outside the container or placed in a non-RWS container.

Can I get an additional trash can?

Additional cans are available for a fee. Contact RWS for details.

What can I put in the trash can?

You may place household trash only in the RWS‑supplied container. The following may not be placed in the trash can:

No hot ash.
No paint, oil, or other hazardous materials.
No building materials or demolition debris.
No combustibles, chemicals, or hazardous waste.
No recycling.
No bungee cords, locking devices, or anything that prevents the lid from opening or closing.

How can I find out about weather or holiday delays?

Holiday delays are posted on the RWS Holiday Schedule. You can also sign up for text alerts from RWS and follow RWS on Facebook for updates about weather‑related or holiday delays. You can also text your address to 203-334-1660 to sign up for text alerts.

Does RWS pick up recycling?

No. RWS provides curbside trash pickup only. Recycling is not collected curbside through the Town’s contract; residents must bring recyclables to the Bethany Recycling Center, operated by Public Works.
However, RWS does offer an optional private curbside recycling service that residents may sign up for directly with the company.

Does RWS pick up bulky waste?

Yes. RWS offers a fee-based curbside bulky waste pickup service by appointment. Residents can also bring bulky items to the Recycling Center on Saturdays by appointment. Learn more
